Elvis Presley’s Graceland: What to Know Before You Go

Our friends were visiting from Las Vegas and wanted to make the trip to Memphis to see Elvis Presley’s Graceland. At the time, neither my husband nor I really knew much about Elvis aside from the surface level details, but once we did our homework we were eager to make the trip to the estate dedicated to the life and legacy of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Looking back, our trip to Graceland was one we will never forget which left a lasting impression, and gave us a deeper appreciation for one of America’s most revolutionary culture icons.

Destin-ation Florida Beaches – Takeaways to Make The Most Out of the Next Vacation

There’s just something about the rhythmic sound of waves crashing on the shore, the salty sea breeze and the sun setting over an endless horizon that brings a unique state of peace to the soul. Our first summer in Tennessee found us desperately missing the ocean, and we needed to find a place to visit to ease our longing for the coast. I began noticing that almost everyone migrated South for a vacation to Florida, more specifically, to a beach town called “Destin.” I couldn’t go anywhere without hearing about someone’s trip to Destin or seeing a “30A” bumper sticker slapped on the back of a car, so naturally I…

Five Things I Learned Moving to the South

From George Strait to Alan Jackson, and Miranda Lambert to Morgan Wallen, country music artists have a beautiful way of painting a distinct picture of Southern culture, one that I have always been captivated by. While I had never been to the South until age 31, I had always imagined myself living there. When my husband and I first visited Nashville, I immediately fell in love with the warm Southern culture, friendly locals and beautiful scenery.

Plotting Our Move to Nashville – Part 3

Employment secured. House off the market. The next step (which we were working on simultaneously during these two big hurdles), was figuring out all move logistics. WOW there were a lot of things to cover. To feel organized and less frazzled, we started with listing everything out in one place on a whiteboard – the same whiteboard my parents got us to help plan the details of our wedding, which was a lifesaver.

Plotting Our Move to Nashville – Part 2

Once we scouted Nashville and confirmed our jobs were secured, the next month was a blur of planning, coordinating, researching, and making quick decisions. The biggest hurdle – aside from employment – was selling our townhome that I absolutely loved. We had not anticipated this move even two months prior, so we had to move extremely fast.

Plotting Our Move to Nashville – Part 1

The plane ride home to San Diego gave us a chance to reflect on this life-changing step we were contemplating. I first thumbed through a few pamphlets and town brochures I collected during our stay (including a guide of Franklin). Then, I drafted a pros and cons list of moving to Tennessee, followed by a pros and cons list of staying in San Diego.
